The Role

The Production Planner is responsible for developing and maintaining production schedules, managing inventory levels, and coordinating with various departments to ensure timely and efficient production. This role involves analyzing production data, forecasting demand, and optimizing processes to meet customer demands while minimizing costs and maximizing resource utilization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Production Scheduling: Develop and maintain production schedules based on demand forecasts, inventory levels, and production capacity. Ensure schedules are met and adjust plans as needed to accommodate changes or disruptions.
  • Inventory Management: Monitor and manage inventory levels of raw materials and finished goods. Coordinate with the procurement team to ensure timely availability of materials while avoiding excess stock.
  • Demand Forecasting: Analyse sales forecasts and historical data to predict future production needs. Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to adjust plans based on market trends and customer requirements.
  • Resource Allocation: Allocate resources such as labor, equipment, and materials efficiently. Identify and address potential bottlenecks or capacity issues to ensure smooth production flow.
  • Process Optimization: Continuously assess production processes and workflows to identify areas for improvement. Implement best practices and process improvements to enhance productivity and reduce costs.
  • Cross-Department Coordination: Work closely with various departments including procurement, manufacturing, quality assurance, and logistics to ensure alignment and resolve any production-related issues.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Maintain accurate production data and generate reports on production performance, inventory levels, and scheduling metrics. Use data to make informed decisions and provide recommendations for improvements.

The successful candidate for this position must have:

  • Tertiary Education – Supply Chain management, Business Administration or related fields.
  • 3+ years proven experience as a Production Planner or similar role in a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in production planning and scheduling software (e.g. ERP systems such as Syspro, SAP).
  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Knowledge: Understanding of production processes, inventory management, and supply chain principles. Familiarity with quality control and regulatory standards.
