Paradise Foods Limited, West Taraka site, currently has a vacant position in it’s Occupational Health, Environment and Safety  Department for enthusiastic and highly motivated individuals based in Lae.

This position reports to the Group Compliance Manager or as otherwise directed.

The Role: 

1. HSSE Program Development:

Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive HSSE programs, policies, and procedures that comply with regulatory requirements and industry standards. Collaborate with management, employees, and stakeholders to set HSSE objectives, targets, and action plans, while continuously monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of these programs to recommend necessary improvements.

2. Risk Assessment and Hazard Identification:

Conduct regular risk assessments and hazard identification activities to detect potential health, safety, security, and environmental risks within the manufacturing plant. Work closely with relevant departments to implement effective control measures and mitigation strategies aimed at eliminating or minimizing identified risks.

3. Incident Management and Investigation:

Establish and uphold procedures for reporting, investigating, and documenting incidents, accidents, near misses, and environmental spills. Lead thorough incident investigations to uncover root causes and contributing factors and implement corrective and preventive actions to address deficiencies and prevent future occurrences.

4. Training and Education:

Develop and deliver HSSE training programs for all organizational levels, providing guidance on HSSE policies, procedures, and safe work practices. Facilitate regular safety meetings, toolbox talks, and safety briefings to foster awareness and engagement in HSSE initiatives among employees and supervisors.

5. Regulatory Compliance:

Stay current with relevant HSSE regulations, laws, and industry standards affecting the manufacturing plant. Coordinate with regulatory agencies and third-party auditors for inspections, permits, and compliance assessments, ensuring the plant adheres to all applicable requirements.

6. Emergency Preparedness and Response:

Develop and implement emergency response plans and procedures for various scenarios, including fires, chemical spills, natural disasters, and medical emergencies. Conduct emergency drills and exercises to test and improve response capabilities, and coordinate with local emergency responders and agencies for effective collaboration during emergencies.

7. Environmental Management:

Monitor and manage the environmental aspects and impacts of manufacturing operations, focusing on air emissions, water discharges, waste management, and resource conservation. Implement pollution prevention measures, recycling initiatives, and sustainable practices to minimize environmental impact, and conduct environmental audits and assessments to ensure regulatory compliance.

  About You:

  • Tertiary qualifications – (Science/Environmental Health preferred). 
  • Minimum 5 years HSS&E experience
  • Safety Officer Level 4
  • OHSE Training Level 3
  • Strong Microsoft application skills set
  • Safeguard Risk Management experience
  • Strong and Transparent Communication Skills – verbal and written
  • Lead with confidence when conducting/leading – root cause analysis
