Paradise Foods Limited is seeking an enthusiastic, skilled and motivated Tradesman Refrigeration Mechanic to join our team in Lae. Reporting to the Refrigeration Coordinator, the successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, repairing and troubleshooting refrigeration and cooling systems within the Ice Cream Division to ensure reliable performance and efficient operations.

The Role

The key responsibilities of this position include:

• Maintenance and Repairs: Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on reefer containers, walkabout freezer containers, display freezers, beverage coolers and process cooling equipment to ensure reliable operation.
• System Optimisation: Monitor and adjust refrigeration system parameters to maintain optimal cooling performance, product integrity and operational efficiency.
• Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve technical faults to minimise equipment downtime and maintain operational reliability.
• Safety and Compliance: Comply with workplace health, safety and environmental requirements while ensuring all repairs and maintenance activities meet relevant standards.
• Emergency Response: Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and implement effective solutions to restore cooling operations with minimal disruption.
• Inventory Management: Monitor spare parts inventory and ensure critical components are available to support timely maintenance and repairs.
• Team Collaboration: Work closely with operations, logistics and technical teams to support equipment tracking, audits and continuous improvement.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, repairs and equipment performance.
• Project Support: Assist with the installation, commissioning and upgrading of refrigeration equipment.
• Energy Efficiency: Identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency, optimise system performance and reduce operating costs.

About You

To be successful in this role, you should possess the following qualifications, experience and attributes:

• Trade certification in Refrigeration Mechanics or an equivalent qualification from APTC, or an Electrical Mechanic qualification with extensive experience in reefer containers and walkabout freezer containers.
• More than five years of experience in commercial refrigeration.
• Strong troubleshooting, diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accountability.
• Ability to work collaboratively and demonstrate team leadership.
• Strong awareness of workplace health and safety requirements.
