Laga Industries gives out a free trolley worth close to K5, 000 to one of its loyal customers.

Meet Tony Ukal!

Tony is from Southern Highlands Province and has been faithfully selling Gala Ice Cream in Port Moresby for more than two decades.

He moved to Port Moresby with his wife and child in the late 80s. As he recalled; life back then was easy for someone like him without any formal education. He could sell bettlenut and cigarettes at the markets and it would be enough to support his family.

However as the years went by, life got harder in the city and with the addition of another child, Tony saw the need to have a more steady income. The rise in competition of bettlenut and cigarettes sales began to have a negative impact on his income generation. It was then that he came across the idea of selling ice-cream.

Tony sold his first Gala Ice-Cream back in 1997. He saw the opportunity to take his ice cream to his customers and decided to acquire an ice-cream trolley- and never looked back.

The revenue that he generated from Gala Ice Cream sales was just what he and his family needed. 22 years on and Tony (now 51) still sells Gala Ice-Cream around Port Moresby. When asked why, he said; “People love my ice cream and it is quite rewarding to put a smile on a kid’s face and as well as making a good profit at the end of the day.”

On a really good day he can sell almost 2 inners of 16 Litre Gala Ice-Cream and make close to K200!

Due to the deteriorating state of his trolley which he had used for the last 22 year, Laga Industries with the rollout of its new Trolley Promotion have decided to gift him with a brand new one. The trolley comes with:

  • T-Shirt;
  • Cap;
  • Umbrella;
  • Freezing plates;
  • Ice Cream Scoop;
  • Frequent trolley maintenance;
  • Customer loyalty program.
